Speed trap detector for Belgian drivers

29 July 2004

BRUSSELS - A CD-ROM that can detect speed traps in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands could soon go on sale, it was revealed on Thursday.

Flemish daily Het Belang van Limburg reported that once fitted in a car's GPS navigation system, the device will be able to detect the 2,200 speed cameras spread around the three countries.

The Dutch firm that developed the new CD-ROM is also working on versions for other European countries, the newspaper added.

The device emits a warning sound 200 metres before the radar and shows the permitted speed limit in that area on a GPS screen.
